Detailed Description
Proviable®-Forte Kit
Product Information:
Proviable®-Forte capsules contain 2 times as many bacterial colony forming units (CFU) as original Proviable®-DC (10 Billion CFUs vs. 5 Billion CFUs for Proviable®-DC). Proviable®-Forte capsules help reestablish healthy intestinal flora while the additional Proviable®-KP paste contains ingredients to help firm stools. Both formulations contain probiotics and prebiotics providing a synbiotic approach to therapy which encourages growth of the Proviable®-Forte beneficial microorganisms within the intestinal tract.
Benefits:
- Proviable®-Forte Chewable Tablets contain seven beneficial bacterial strains, which increases the chances for colonization and helps reestablish healthy intestinal microflora after: Antibiotic use, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivities, stresses due to travel and kenneling, weaning of puppies and kittens, metabolic disturbances, and immune system related gastrointestinal conditions.
WHY IS A BALANCED INTESTINAL MICROFLORA IMPORTANT?
Your pet’s intestinal health relies on the balance of the intestinal microflora – the balance between the
beneficial bacteria and the harmful bacteria found within the intestinal tract. Having a balanced and
healthy intestinal microflora is crucial to the wellbeing of your pet. A balanced bacterial microflora helps to keep your pet healthy by
• stimulating the body’s immune system –the ability to fight off infection
• digesting food nutrients
• producing vitamins and fatty acids
Usage Guidelines:
Give paste and capsules by mouth as directed by your veterinarian. Paste and capsules should be started on the same day. The Proviable®-KP paste is for short term use and given for 48 to 72 hours via a easy to use graduated tube. The Proviable®-Forte capsules can be given long term. Give 1 easily administered sprinkle capsule daily on food or pilled as directed by your veterinarian.
CAN PROVIABLE® PRODUCTS BE GIVEN WITH MEDICATIONS?
The kaolin and pectin in KP paste could delay absorption of some medications, so the use of
the paste should be separated by 1–2 hours from medications. Proviable-Forte capsules or chewable
tablets should not be given at the same time as antibiotic medications for full effectiveness of
the probiotics; therefore, it is best to separate administration by 1–2 hours.
WHAT MIGHT CAUSE IMBALANCES IN THE INTESTINAL MICROFLORA?
Imbalances can occur with stresses such as:
• illness
• antibiotic usage
• traveling
• kenneling
• dietary change, especially a sudden change
Your pet could show signs including
• loose stool
• decreased appetite
• vomiting
ARE THERE ANY SAFETY CONCERNS OR SIDE EFFECTS WITH PROVIABLE®PRODUCTS?
Probiotics should be provided based on the recommendation of your veterinarian. They are not
recommended for pets that are critically ill or that have a suppressed immune system, or in animals
that are severely dehydrated or vomiting. There are no known side effects with probiotics when
given according to package recommendations. KP paste should only be used for 48-72 hours
unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian, as the kaolin and pectin could potentially cause
constipation with prolonged use at higher than recommended doses.
HOW SHOULD PROVIABLE® PRODUCTS BE STORED?
The probiotics in Proviable products are protected to ensure viability with storage at room temperature,
not to exceed 77°F, for two years. The expiration dates are found on the packaging. If there is
concern about storage at temperatures above 77°F, Proviable products can be stored in the refrigerator
as long as they are not frozen.
Cautions:
The kaolin and pectin in the Proviable® paste could delay absorption of some medications, so the administration of the paste should be separated by 1-2 hours from other medications. The Proviable®-Forte capsules should not be given at the same time as antibiotic medications for full effectiveness of the probiotics; therefore it is best to separate the administration times by 1-2 hours. Probiotics should be administered based on the recommendation of your veterinarian. They are not recommended for pets that are critically ill or that have a suppressed immune system, or in animals that are severely dehydrated or vomiting.
